I was reading this blog and immediately the darah naik my kepala!! WTH!! Why do they keep changing things?? I'm really pissed off! Although Mia is only 21mths now, I'm already feeling the pressure to send her for studies in Int'l School/private school or Overseas. I may not know the head and tail of how our Ministry Of Education works or how our Govt works, but based on my personal experience, learning BM didn't really help me in my career after high school. Am I the only one feeling this way?? No offense to those working in the govt sector; but I think BM is only used there, right?? How many of our young generation will have the opportunity or wants to work in the govt sector? Again, no offense, I personally have no interest to work with the govt despite all the 'benefits' and 'perks'. Hei, my mum works with the govt, my dad used to work with the govt, my MIL is a retired govt servant and so is my late FIL k... I have nothing against working for the govt, I just feel that we have a better and equal opportunity to strive and grow in the private sector (I think u know what I mean)..
So, back to the main topic. English is the common denominator when it comes to bridging language barriers. If u need to learn a foreign language, English should be it. If u can speak, read and write in English, that's a PLUS point in your resume. Think about it, almost every literature out there (whether in soft or hard copy) are written in English. The main language in cyber world is English.. It's the language I personally think everybody should pick-up.. If u're slacking or your kids are slacking, send them and send yourself for English tuition la!!
After high school, I went to a local college to get a Diploma in Tourism Operations. Our lecturer was an orang putih (from UK), all our notes are in English and all our assignments and presentations must be in English.. I didn't use a single BM word!!
My 1st job was in Danum Valley.. All the local workers there are from Ulu2 you know (Dusun Sugpan, ppl from Bukit Garam etc). They were once tukang chainsaw kayu balak deep inside the jungle. But u know what, they picked up the language cuz they wanted a better life.. All of them are now speaking good English and working in Borneo Rainforest Lodge as Chefs, Bartenders, Forest Guides etc.. Do they have special abilities or super power to learn a new language?? NO!! All they had was determination and willingness to learn. I think all those going against the idea of teaching Maths and Science in English should think about this. If I was still in school, I'd probably struggle to learn Math and Science in English too. But heck, nothing in life is easy.. better struggle in school for few years, than struggle in your carrier until it's time to retire 30years later!!
